Interview with Pam Grout, best-selling author of E2 and E3!

Last week, I re-read Pam Grout’s #1 New York Times best-selling book, E-squared: Nine Do-It-Yourself Energy Experiments That Prove You Create Your Reality to prepare for our "Short & Snappy" interview. I did the first experiment: “The Dude Abides Principal” (“Dude” meaning a higher power, God, the Universe, or as Grout says, the FP – Field of Potential). You ask the Dude for a blessing or unexpected gift within a 48-hour time period. Two days later, I had my blessing: a beloved necklace turned up that had been missing for years. The Dude is good.

This is the concept of E-squared and her hit follow-up, E-cubed: Nine More Energy Experiments That Prove That Manifesting Magic and Miracles Is Your Full-Time Gig – what we put our attention on shows up in our lives. While this may be a familiar idea from books like The Secret, Pam Grout explains it all using quantum physics, the scientific method, and an irresistibly quirky writing style. Don’t expect dry, scientific reading. These experiments are as spiritual as they are scientific, and above all, fun – even for the whole family. Read on!

CSM: WHAT DO YOU WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW ABOUT CHANGING OUR REALITIES BY CHANGING OUR NEURAL PATHWAYS?

PG: We animate into our lives whatever we focus upon. So if we focus upon all the things that are going wrong, we animate more things going wrong. It's like cloud computing. We choose what to pull down from the infinite possibilities.  As for me, I prefer focusing on the beauty of the world and the highest in my fellow humans.

CSM: YOU WROTE IN E-SQUARED: “IF YOU ASK ME, LEARNING HOW TO TRANSFORM ENERGY IS SO IMPORTANT IT SHOULD BE TAUGHT ALONG WITH READING, WRITING, AND ARITHMETIC.” PRETEND YOU’RE THE TEACHER. WHAT MIGHT THAT LOOK LIKE IN A SECOND-GRADE CLASSROOM?

PG: Our kids probably know more about miracles and possibilities than we do. Instead of teaching it out of them, we should tell them to follow what feels most alive. It's we adults that probably need to be reminded.  If we encouraged children to do what they love, we would have more adults who love what they do.

CSM: HOW DO YOUR IDEAS ABOUT MIRACLES AND MANIFESTATION INFORM YOUR PARENTING?

PG: My daughter is now 22, but when I was more actively parenting, I chose to demonstrate my faith in miracles and manifesting. Preaching about it doesn't do a thing. But our kids are watching and when they see us being happy, trusting in our connection to the bigger thing they, too, can relax and enjoy the world's beneficence.

CSM: CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANY PARTICULAR EXPERIMENT FROM E-SQUARED OR E-CUBED FOR PARENTS AND KIDS TO DO TOGETHER?

PG: Kids LOVE the Einstein wands. That's the experiment from the Alby Einstein principle in E-Squared where you make wands out of coat hangers. I hear from parents all the time. Kids seem to just naturally enjoy the experiments. In fact, they might be secretly thinking, "Well, duh!

CSM: YOU’VE MENTIONED A FORTHCOMING BOOK ON JOY AND GRATITUDE (ALSO WITH HAY HOUSE). TELL US MORE ABOUT THAT.

PG: It comes out next fall. I can't reveal the title, but the subtitle (which does explain it) is "A month-long experiment in gratitude and unabashed joy."
